Imagine how you would feel winning the lottery? You would be pretty excited, right? Now imagine Uncle Sam taking every penny away for back taxes (it’s possible). Pretty bummed right? Well, that’s the reality Christina Anderson, a Detroit resident, is feeling right now; Bank of America being casted as Uncle Sam! Anderson recently inherited 50 thousand due to her little brother passing away resulting in a lawsuit which worked in her favor. The money was deposited into her account May 20th,2016. She drew a total of $13,000, and then the unfortunate happened. Her car was totaled on May 24th;therefore, she went to withdraw another 5 thousand and the teller began questioning Anderson as to how she came about so much money.  She told him, “I feel that’s none of your business” and decided to withdraw from another branch. By the time she reached the next branch, her account had been frozen for fraud. She was told it would be frozen for two hours while Bank of America investigate for fraud. Several days later, her account is still frozen and she’s in the dark as to what’s the hold up. There aren’t any specific rules or guidelines that clerks follow who suspect fraud, but most simply use their own intuition. Anderson is a single mother and isn’t sure how she will feed her four kids nor pay her bills. Anderson is now carless and her son’s graduation party is being postponed because she doesn’t know how she will pay it! Anderson says,” I thought I was being safe putting money in the bank, but it seems I’m safer putting it under my mattress.”  Do you believe Bank of America should release the hold off of her account? Do you believe discrimination plays a part in their doing? How would you have handled this situation being in her position? Let us know your thoughts!
