The Louisiana Senate made a big decision on April 11th that may put some out of their job. The senate passed Senate Bill 468, which will require any exotic dancer in Louisiana to be at least 21 years of age or older. The bill was proposed by Senator Ronnie Johns, R-Lake Charles. Sen. Johns did so because dancers under the age of 21 are more vulnerable to human trafficking. The push for this bill heightened after a 19 year old dancer was killed in New Orleans last year. The bill was passed unanimously and will now be moved to the House committee to be decided upon. Senate Bill 468 will only apply to the exotic dancers themselves, any other person between age 18-21 who works at the facility will be allowed to continue employment. Human trafficking is a serious matter and many young women are affected, kidnapped and sometimes even murdered in result of it. The Senate’s main focus is to try to eliminate it any way possible, and they believe this bill will be a great start to it. Do you think the bill will help the decrease the amount of women affected each year by human trafficking or is it a lost cause? Let us know your thoughts!
