Long live the pimp! Chad Lamont Butler, better known as “Pimp C” was truly an inspiration to the hip hop community, especially his southern audience. Born on December 29, 1973, Pimp C at an early age was influenced by the soulful melodies you hear in his music. His father was a trumpet player and his step dad was a band teacher, so he often listened to jazz and blues growing up. In 1987, he would team up with one of his best friends, Bernard “Bun B” Freeman and create the rap group Underground Kingz (UGK). They signed to Jive records in 1992 and the rest is history. The duo definitely made its mark on the music industry releasing numerous albums and iconic features. Pimp C’s charisma and outspokenness could hardly go unnoticed. He gained notability and respect for what he like to call “Country Rap Tunes” or Southern Rap, which in the 90’s,the hip hop community didn’t like to shine light on. Pimp C passed away from natural causes in his hotel room on December 4th, 2007. His passing is still mourned by many, and his presence is definitely missed.
