Louisiana is known for it’s creole cuisine, swampy grounds and being a “Sportsman’s Paradise” but it does not hit the mark when it comes to education! Wallethub, a personal finance website, created a study focusing on 17 metrics. The research placed Louisiana in last place out of the 50 and Massachusetts in first! The scores were tallied on a 100 point scale with Louisiana scoring 30.33 and Massachusetts at 73.65!
Barry Landry, a spokesman for the State Department of Education, stated that the study was “unacceptable.” “Our plan is working, as evidenced by our 4th grade students achieving the highest growth among all states on the 2015 NAEP reading test and second highest growth in math”, stated Landry. “Additionally, the graduation rate is at an all-time high, ACT performance has increased for a third straight year and students showed greater annual improvement on Advanced Placement in 2015 than in any state other than Massachusetts”, he concluded.
Louisiana is a great state that has ranked low in education for quite some time now. Do you think the Department of Education is really focusing on the advancement of the children or are they content with being last? Let us know your thoughts on it!
