Get those twitter fingers ready, because Twitter is allowing users to tweet more characters soon! The massive micro blogging site will no longer include photo’s, gifs, polls, as well as usernames that include the “@” symbol in its 140 character limit. “This will make having conversations on twitter easier and more straightforward”, Todd Sherman, Twitter’s Senior Product Manager stated. Twitter originally began the 140 character limit so that users may be able to tweet via text, because SMS has a 160 character limit. They are not looking to change the amount of characters, but rather make micro blogging easier and more effective! Users will be able to retweet themselves as well. With over 300 million users, the 140 character limit works for a lot of users and will only invite more users to join!
